The WineryThe property, formerly known as Gidney's Corner, was once a vineyard only, consisting of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Shiraz and Chenin vines, which were planted in early 1941. The land passed hands several times and was purchased in 1998 by husband and wife team Barry Scrivener and Robyn Meloury, who are still the current owners.
Most of the vines were in a state of neglect, as were the trellising and front paddocks facing West Swan Road. After painstaking repairs on the vines and the property itself, the name "Black Swan Wines" was registered and later patented. The first vintage was accomplished in 2001, and reaped gold medals for the Cabernet Sauvignon and the Cabernet Franc. This Sauvignon also took out a trophy for the best red in its class at the 2002 Swan Valley Wine Show. Since then, 90% of the wines produced have won numerous medals and accolades, and are continuing to do so. Additional planting of Merlot and Chardonnay vines has added a broader range of varietals. We believe Black Swan Wines has achieved such high recognition because of the traditional vineyard management techniques we use and the mature age of our vines.
