Black Swan Winery and Restaurant sits on a property formerly known as “Gidney’s Corner”. The original site consisted of a residential house, vines, and horse paddocks. After passing hands several times, the property was purchased in 1998 by husband and wife team, Barry Scrivener and Robyn Meloury, still the current owners.
The vineyard consists of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Shiraz, Merlot, Chenin & Chardonnay and apart from the latter and some additional Shiraz, the vines were mostly planted in 1941. In the past, the fruit from the vines was on sold to other wineries, with only a small amount being processed, on site, for domestic wine use.
Barry and Robyn converted the property to a “restaurant within a winery” and the first vintage, accomplished in 2001, reaped gold medals for the Cabernet Sauvignon and the Cabernet Franc at the 2002 Swan Valley Wine Show. The 2001 Cabernet Sauvignon also won the trophy for “Best Red in its Class”. Since, 90% of the wines produced have won numerous medals and accolades, and are continuing to do so. We believe Black Swan Wines has achieved such high recognition because of the traditional vineyard management techniques used and the mature age of the existing vines.
Commencement of the restaurant began in 2000, with an initial opening of doors in 2002. Over the following two years the remainder of the building was completed.
The venue is purposely built for guests to capture fantastic views of vineyards, the Darling Ranges and adjacent rural surroundings. The design and building materials reflect a style and blend of rustic Australian ambience, with a touch of elegance.
Future development is now under way of a more spacious wine tasting area, cellar door and a gift shop.
ETA is middle to end 2015.
Chef’s gardens are established throughout the property, providing much of the kitchen’s needs for organic herbs.
We invite you to indulge in modern Australian cuisine, using the best and freshest produce available. The meals are prepared “A la carte”, bringing to you, freshly cooked meals. In exchange for high standard food, we ask for your patience when dining on a busy day or evening. The restaurant is also fully licensed offering a wide selection of wines, beers, spirits and cocktails.
